The Brooke Foundation was established in loving memory of Brooke Shannon Snyder by her family: parents Michael and Dale, brother Todd, sister Erin, and Erin’s husband Pete Vainoris. It was created for children in need, in recognition of her lifelong love of learning and her concern for those less fortunate. Brooke was born in 1975 in Long Beach, California. The Snyder family lived in several different states during Brooke’s school years as a result of her father’s corporate relocations. She graduated from Dublin High School, Dublin, Ohio, in 1993. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Miami University (Ohio), graduating Magna Cum Laude, in 1997. She then attended Law School at the University of Chicago, receiving her Jurist Doctorate degree in 2000. Soon after graduation, Brooke passed the California Bar exam and began her professional career as an Associate Attorney with the law firm of Latham & Watkins at their San Francisco offices. Brooke’s life was cut short in August 2002, on a street in San Francisco, by a drunk driver. She is remembered by family, friends, and all who knew her as a friendly, bright and beautiful young woman who loved life. She had a strong sense of fairness and willingness to stand up for her beliefs. We believe Brooke would be pleased with the work of her namesake foundation. She is so missed. Shortly after her death, a scholarship in Brooke’s memory was established at Miami University with money donated by many generous friends, family, associates and even strangers. This scholarship provides financial assistance, to qualified students, for international studies at Miami’s Luxembourg campus. The semester that Brooke spent in Luxembourg was a highlight of her college experience. The Brooke Foundation has no connection to the scholarship, except that both are in her honor. For those wishing to support the scholarship, you may send your donations directly to:
